Hero Rescues Dying Dog From Freeway. What A Guy!

Good Samaritan Rickey Young put himself at risk of life and limb when he saw a dying dog lying in the freeway. With little heed for his own safety, he stepped into the traffic to rescue the dog.

The drama unfolded in the HOV lane of the Eastex Freeway in Houston. Commuters had seen the injured Labrador mix and called it in to the police and the SPCA and the story was already reaching local radio as a traffic item.

Hearing it on the radio, Ricky was soon on the scene before the SPCA and decided not to wait for help. Fearing that every second counted for the dog, he tried to coax her to come to him by patting the ground and calling to her. When that didn’t work Ricky’s quick thinking made him rush back to his truck, grab a sandwich he’d been about to eat and offer up his lunch to lure the dog to safety.

Soon enough, he had the injured dog safe in his truck and on the way to emergency veterinary care.

“I’m just kind of a softy on that stuff,” he said. “I have a dog and would hate to see him on a highway like that”, before adding, “I could see that she was thankful and she was happy to be in a safer environment” – well thank God for the good guys like you Rickey.

The veterinarian who treated her said that she had broken bones and internal bleeding and that if no one had stopped to help, she would have died on the freeway.
